Andrey Melnichenko is a Russian billionaire that own numerous yachts including the $300 million Philippe Starck, one of the most luxurious yachts in the world. But now he’s planning something even more impressive, he’s building the world’s largest sailing yacht, it will have 147 meters, or 482 feet and it will be finished next summer.
The yacht was initially known as Sailing Yacht A but its name will be The White Pearl and both the name and the design was partially inspired by the Black Pearl from the renown movie franchise Pirates Of The Caribbean.
This yacht was also designed by Philippe Starck and is being build at at the Nobiskrug shipyard in Kiel, Germany. The work started in 2012 and it was already spotted on the sea for tests. In July 2016 is should be finished and ready for Andrey Melnichenko to sail the world. The world’s largest sailing yacht at the moment is the Sea Cloud with 96 meters that was build in the 30’s. Another big sailing yacht is the Maltese Falcon by Tom Perkins from 2006 with 90 meters.
But the White Pearl will be much bigger, it will have 147 meters and it will feature 8 decks, three carbon fiber masts towers up to 100 meters, 24 shell doors in the hull, an underwater observation area and it will accommodate 20 guests and a crew of 66 people. The ship will also have a massive swimming pool and even a private submarine. The total of the sailing area will have 40.000 sq.ft or more than 3,700m2 and it will reach a speed of 21 knots.
The impressive ship will have state of the art furnishings, high quality materials, the latest technology in sail system and a design that will not be unnoticed once it hits the seas. Not everybody can afford such luxury but for oligarch Andrey Melnichenko this is not only an investment but also passion for exceptional ships.
